The process of dissolving a marriage. Typically involves issues related to child custody, child support, property distribution, and alimony. - Alimony
Spousal or maintenance support obligation typically tied to a divorce proceeding. Alimony can be granted on a rehabilitative or permanent basis. - Child Support
The ongoing obligation for a periodic payment made directly or indirectly by a non-custodial parent to a custodial parent. Intended for the care and support of minor children of a marriage or relationship which has been terminated. - Separation and Property Settlement Agreements
A contract entered into between two people after separating from the marital home but prior to divorce. Typically includes provisions relating to child custody, child support, and property division. - Prenuptial and Postnuptial Agreements
A contract entered into by two people either before or after the marriage or civil union. Provisions typically include the division of property in the event the couple divorces. - Guardianship
A legal relationship created by a court and his ward – either a minor child or an incapacitated adult. The guardian has the legal right and duty to care for the ward. Duties may include making personal decisions on his or her behalf and managing property.
